The Role
A vacancy has arisen within a well known and respected international power solutions organisation for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer based in their UK Tyne and Wear offices.


Provide electrical engineering services and support to the companies CHP power project development and acquisition teams as well as its operating power plant assets. These services and support are provided by evaluating, organizing and implementing new and or upgrade projects, interfacing with other disciplines, both internal and external to the company, preparing schedules, estimates, requests for proposals and budgets for project tasks, taking a leadership role in the resolution of major technical issues related to the design and operation of electrical equipment and systems, conducting technical due diligence of potential asset acquisitions, and participating in operational troubleshooting involving corrective actions, root cause analysis and resolution, as required.


Responsibilities

• Perform due diligence investigations, analyses, and evaluations in conjunction with other disciplines on proposed business initiatives and project development on new, existing or under construction projects in all of the international arenas in which the company operates.
• Analyze substations and transmission system requirements, configurations and related studies to better suit the technical and economic needs of the company.
• Perform basic economic justifications, develop plans and schedules, and assist with and provide technical input to major equipment and vendor scopes of work and contract negotiations.
• Prepare detailed conceptual electrical layouts and one line diagrams for new or modified substations, switchyards and powerplants, including CHP.
• Prepare detailed control system functional design specifications for CHP and power plants.
• Prepare major electrical material and apparatus technical specifications for capital projects.
• Provide technical support for interface with OEMs, EPC contractors, utilities and jurisdictional authorities.
• Prepare DCS PLC specifications for individual plant items and supervisory control systems.
• Support project development and acquisition teams, coordinating with other disciplines within the Engineering Services group to achieve comprehensive project engineering support.
• Provide the relevant technical expertise and support related to regional development of new projects, new business initiatives or new business opportunities associated with the repowering of existing assets.
• Identify technical issues and provide timely solutions to both operating development projects and provide regular updates and input to the team.
• Keep abreast of new developments in engineering technology and the electricity industry.
• Establish the scope and work services required to initiate and conducts the design review, feasibility studies and conceptual engineering for assigned projects.

Qualifications

 A Bachelors degree in engineering or related science or equivalent qualification
 Ideally 10 plus years of experience in electrical engineering and substation and transmission design and CHP.
 Experience with conceptual engineering, design, construction, testing, commissioning, and operation of power plants, high and extra high voltage substations, switchyards utilizing Gas Insulated Switchgear.
 Experience performing successful electrical and Control & Instrumentation due diligence investigations, analyses and evaluations on existing operations or construction projects on a worldwide basis.
 Ability to analyze T&D system requirements, configurations, and related studies.
 Experience in analyzing Control & Instrumentation systems.
 Hands on PLC experience and a good understanding of DCS systems.
 Experience with the preparation of proposals to prospective clients including preparation of scope of work and list of deliverables, preparation of man-hour estimates and project schedules.
 Strong supervisory, technical and leadership skills, including the development and scoping of complex power engineering projects.
 Demonstrated knowledge of the application of international industry codes and standards as related to plant, substation and T&E system electrical equipment.
 Experience using project management and scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, Autocad and Autoview as well as other computer applications as required.
 Must be able to communicate well with all levels of personnel in multiple languages. Must be able to solve problems effectively. Multiple language skills a plus or ability to work easily with a translator.



The Company
The company are an international electric power and heating service organisation. Working within two specific fields one building and producing power systems and projects the other offering in-house power and heating solutions to large usage organisations.

The Rewards
The salary range is within £60,000 to 70,000 and is therefore negotiable based on experience, with an additional package.
